Welcome

This page links you to course materials that I have developed. Feedback is welcome.

FishBanks: This is a simulation game that allows students to experience the "tragedy of the commons". Teams of students form fishing companies that must decide how much, and where to fish. The inevitable crash of the fish populations, and their resulting financial predicament demonstrates the complexities inherent in managing fisheries for future generations.

Oceanography Lab Manual: This is the lab manual that I used for Spring Quarter, 2000.

Bar Code Generator Bar codes have been extensively used in the Oceanography class. This tells you how to get started with bar codes and has a download of a Mac only barcode label generator for standard 3x11 mailing labels.

Question of the Day: This is a series of about 25 short activities that can be done in 5-15 minutes in my Oceanography class. Activities range from filling in an earth history time scale, finding interesting features on a world map, to atmospheric circulation. There is a nice coriolis effect activity that should be very effective in helping students visualize this difficult phenomenon. Updated March 21, 2002
