Goals:
Using the "Our Dynamic Planet" CD, students will learn about:
- The theory of plate tectonics
- The process of science
- How to critically evaluate claims
Learners engage in authentic scientific investigations and analysis, which includes:
- Posing a solvable problem
- Gathering relevant data
- Presenting and discussing preliminary results
- Writing a scientific paper
Strategy:
Activities are scaffolded to help the student:
- Learn the theory
- Find data to support some aspect of the theory or its predictions
- Make a scientific argument based on the data.
Activities that support this are:
- Class presentations
- Small group discussion
- Final science paper
