EarthEd Online V4 Help System
|
Macintosh Users: Classic mode: EarthEd runs in "Classic" mode on OSX. If you have a new Mac, Classic is probably not installed, so you will need to install it. The easiest way to install "Classic" is to simply copy the "System Folder" directory from the EarthEd DVD, to your hard drive. To do this, insert the EarthEd DVD and when the "EarthEd-Online4" icon shows up on your desktop, double click on it to see the files inside. Enlarge the window and find the "System Folder" icon. Drag it on top of your system hard drive, usually labeled "Macintosh HD." When you then double click on the "EarthEd-Online4 Install" icon, on the EarthEd DVD, you should get a window showing the "Classic" is starting. If this doesn't work, try restarting your computer. PC Users: Quicktime installation: Most PC's don't come with Quicktime already installed. Quicktime is required for the full functionality of EarthEd. The Quicktime installer is included on the EarthEd DVD or CD and when you run the "EarthEd-Online4 Install" program, the installer will launch if Quicktime is not recognized on your system. Quicktime 7: Apple has introduced a new version of Quicktime 7 for the PC. If you have downloaded the "beta" version, it will not work with EarthEd. You can uninstall Quicktime, and then re-install the current version 7 of quicktime from the Apple quicktime link. Installing on School Network or Shared Computers: If you cannot get the program to install, it may be that the installer is trying to put the program in a write-protected directory. Installing it on the desktop is a reasonable temporary solution. However, every time the IT department updates the computer, it will probably get erased and the new updates will have to be downloaded. For installing, the Application part of the install can be on a write-protected directory (if it is write enabled before installation), but the "EarthEd-Online4-Temp" files must be put on a place that is always write enabled. Of course, if the Application part is put in a write-protected area, you might want to disable the updates notification, which will fail because they can't be installed. The updates notification is disabled in the installer, last screen. It's a checkbox.
