Future EarthEd Plans

Phases of adoption during this final development
Developer adoption. That's me. I have tested it on my oceanography class at UCSB
"Bleeding Edge Adopters." (beginning mid-Sept, 2005). This phase can support 2 or 3 users who are getting help from me in configuring the class, making changes that are suggested, and closely following student progress and various issues.
"Early Adopters." (beginning Spring 2006). During this phase, the major systems have been implemented and teachers will be able to use EarthEd with much less intervention by myself. During this phase, it would be desirable to test the student subscription fee model to see what issues will arise. The maximum number of teachers, at this phase is about 12.
"Mature Adopters." (beginning Fall of 2006). At this time, all teacher support functions are implemented and tested. Student subscription fees will provide technical support. A commercial internet hosting service will provide 24/7 service and backups.
Capabilities planned to be implemented in the near future (Jan. 1 2006)
Finish teacher's interface
Create a new class, or copy an existing class
Configure assignments, due dates, points, and content
Search a library of assignments, copy and edit them, and create new assignments easily
Add the bulletin board (threaded discussion) capability that had been developed for an earlier version of EarthEd, but left off the current version due to time constraints. The advantage of this bulletin board system is that it has a built-in graphics editor (same as Writer) and is designed for efficient grading of student postings.
Automatic bug posting system will track mouse clicks and post errors to a database.
Planned for completion Sept. 1:
Implement student subscription fee
Extensive testing of software by students
Incorporation of modifications in response to feedback from "Bleeding Edge" and "Early" Adopters.
