EarthEd Dissemination: EarthEd is "Open Source," meaning that I intend on supporting developers who would like to add modules, and teachers who would like to use, and contribute to, the built-in assignments and resources library. The 3 dissemination phases are listed below, with approximate availability dates.

I have defined 3 phases of dissemination for EarthEd.

  1. Bleeding Edge Adopters: (available Sept. 1, 2005). During this phase, I help a few users set up their class, and get feedback on required new features and bugs. The teacher interface is incomplete at this time, so personal hand-holding is needed.
  2. Early Adopters: (available Jan. 1, 2006). The teacher's interface is largely complete and users will be able to configure the system without my intervention. Users will provide substantial feedback on issues that arise.
  3. Broad dissemination (estimated Fall 2006). The system will be opened to all users. A small student subscription fee will be charged for access, and for technical support. The teacher's interface will be in a refined state and software bugs will be rare.
