Writer Idiosyncrasies (as of April 14, 2004) To paste text into the writer from the clipboard, use the "Paste" button. The control keys won't work. When you paste, be prepared for a wait. It can take as long as a minute or two to paste text. If it looks like the screen is locked when you paste, wait. It's best to paste into an empty line. That is, press return a couple of times, then insert the text on an empty line. It will go faster. If you type into the middle of an italicized section, type slowly, or some of your text may appear italicized. Everything goes more smoothly if pasting is done into an empty line, though. You can cut and paste text from one part of the writer to another and it will not italicize the text, indicating something that should be quoted. But, you use the buttons on the screen, not the control keys. You can try copying the text from each section into the clipboard, then pasting it into Word for a spell check. You can't go the other way, though, so you'll have to re-find (in the writer) the words that are spelled wrong. We don't take off credit for spelling errors unless they are extreme and there are many of them.
