Project Goals:

  • Improve science literacy in the general population
  • Motivate learning by making clear the connections between science and learner's future
  • Improve learners' ability to analyze science claims in the media
  • Improve learners' awareness of global environmental issues

Methods:

  • Emphasize science process
  • Access, analyze, and interpret authentic earth data
  • Collaborate with and discuss findings with peers
  • Make scientific, data-based arguments in writing exercises
  • Understand science findings from the viewpoint of a variety of stakeholders

  • Introductory college level learners
  • Learners in "live" classrooms where online activities augment classroom activities
  • Fully online courses (distance education)
  • Professional development for practicing teachers
  • Learners at distant locations or with difficult schedules
